Made In England Since 1835
Hand made, reduced edge needles for hand finishing sail repairs, canvas work or whipped ends.
W. Smith & Son have been manufacturing needles in England since 1835. Manufactured from high carbon cast steel, the highly polished reduced edge design and triangular point easily pierce heavy fabric and rope whilst the elongated eye makes threading twine easier. The Design allows the use of pliers to pull through particularly stubborn items.
No. 107 Needles come in an envelope containing assorted sizes 14 to 18 swg.
Uses
- Sail Repairs
- Canvas Work
- Sewn Whipping
Why is a Rope Whipping used?
A whipping prevents the end of a rope from fraying and stops the core from slipping into the cover.
To whip a rope end yourself you will need
- Whipping twine
- Sailmakers Needles
- Typically a sailmakers palm
Tip: The width of the whipping should be approximately one and a half times the ropes diameter.
For a ready made whipping kit see our other items.
These needles are also available in packs of 5.
